Wild Boy Milestones

Image
Hola Wild Boy followers! This week we are going to pay homage to milestones.  Let me start by explaining I, like all new parents, was obsessive about baby milestones in the beginning.  At one point I could have rattled off exactly how old a child should be before they rolled, scooted, crawled, sat, waved...all that crap.  My encyclopedic knowledge lasted for about one week after Gav was born, and sleep deprivation kicked in and I forgot everything.  Following that point I never caught up on sleep. Ever. I totally relied on my awesome pediatrician to tell me that the boys were doing what they need to be doing at our well check visits, and then I would get that cocky "my kids are on track" swagger and high five the cop and get all proud of myself until one of them would do something like get stuck in a life jacket in the middle of winter and panic like a cat with it's head covered, running into walls and weeping hysterically with mild injuries until I ...

Wild Boy Vacay!

Image
Hola Wild Boy followers. The few, the proud, the several of you who actually diligently read the blog...I appreciate you! Here I sit, checking in after a little improvised get away with the Wild Boys this week.  The cop went immediately from graveyard shifts to training down in Monterey, and I decided that we would join him to keep him company in the evenings (translation - the cop had a paid room in my all time favorite beach town and there was no way I wasn't crashing that party).  Being as we head to this town quite a bit (like, enough that waiters at our favorite restaurants know us and Yelp actually thinks I live in Pacific Grove) I thought we'd totally mix things up this time to keep it lively. Epic mistake peeps. Epic mistake. First off, we usually stay in the same hotel every time which has family suites.  The Wild Boys have become accustomed to a manner of travel that will necessitate them either getting well paying careers or marrying well. Because when th...

Happy Campers!

Image
Hola friends and Wild Boy followers! This week finds the boys home from Cub Scout summer camp, and after almost a week with them back I have almost caught up on laundry but they are nowhere near caught up on sleep.  It hasn't really slowed them down, it just makes them slightly crankier which is always loads of fun.  I take some comfort in knowing they save this moodiness for their Momma, since the receptionist at the dentist today told me and the other people waiting that my boys are "absolute angels" and at one point described them as "Stepford children." I checked to make sure they had my chart right and weren't thinking I was someone else. Lord knows I don't need to go in for a cleaning and come out with a root canal, am I right? But no, she actually meant Gavin and Gabe, which means clearly they are capable of being good. They're just rarely willing . Anyhow, Cub Scout camp.  We already discussed that this is a chunk of time without Momma. W...

Independence Day/Camp Week/Empty Casa

Image
Hola again from La Casa de Testosterone. Thought I'd stop by for a brief check in to kill some empty house time. The Wild Boys are with the cop at Cub Scout Camp. This is the last year all three of them will be gone together, because Gavin moves on up to Boy Scouts this upcoming year.  Part of me is in shock that he's so old already, and part of me is just super glad because I am NOT a happy Momma with an empty house. However, I have caught up on Netflix episodes, eaten an obscene amount of ice cream from the carton, and stayed up as late as I wanted. It's beautiful to occasionally NOT have to be a good role model. Not that I'm ever a GREAT role model anyhow... Anyhow, this past week was jam packed with a sick Momma, fireworks in town, fireworks clean up in town the next morning (see what civic minded little gems we are raising here peeps?), swimming, barbecuing, packing, and then their departure. And that was all between Monday and Wednesday. It's obscene how muc...

POOL MEMBERSHIP!!!

Image
Hola faithful Wild Boy followers! So I'm logging in a wee bit later this weekend, but I can explain.  The cop had training all last week in Monterey, and I was solo parenting.  This means that by the time he came home, the boys were wildly excited to see him and I was about six inches from catatonic, sitting huddled in the fetal position in a corner, rocking back and forth and contemplating thumb sucking. You think I'm exaggerating, and maybe I am, but only a little bit and that's the sad part. Anyhow, while the cop was anguishing in his classes with other high ranking law enforcement and "networking" (ok, lets call a spade a spade here - you're going out for dinner and drinks with your friends...I'm going to start calling my all girls spa days networking soon, but oh wait, I NEVER GET THOSE) I was dealing with two highly energetic boys the only way a tired old Momma can in the summer - pool time.  Last summer we finally got one of the coveted pool memb...
